In recent days, Mercy Aigbe gained a lot of attention because she converted to Islam. She had converted to Islam following her marriage to filmmaker, Kazeem Adeoti, in 2022. After sharing about sexual harassment story, she again gained a lot of attention.
In an interview with ‘Your Views’, a talk show on TVC, the Nigerian actress said that she went through challenges in the industry and made her way to the top through consistency.

What happened to Mercy Aigbe?
The actress said, “I once met a producer in Surulere, and I expressed to him how much I would love to act. After the last audition, I was given a minor role. I told him that was not the character I was auditioning for, and he replied that I should be close to him (the producer). He tried to touch me. I thought if that was what it took to be an actress, I did not want to be an actress anymore.”
Mercy Aigbe was very upset because of the situation. She cried because of the situation. She said, “I had left a well-paying job to join Nollywood, and I was already a single mother at the time.”
In the interview, she also revealed that she converted to Islam because of her love for her husband. The actress said, “I just decided on my own to convert to Islam because I love my husband so much.”

Mercy Aigbe was born on 1 January 1978 in Benin City, Nigeria. She completed her primary education at St. Francis primary school. In 2001, she graduated from University of Lagos with a degree in Theater Arts.
She joined the Nollywood industry in 2006. She came into the limelight because of ‘Ara,’ a movie produced by Remi Olupo in Ibadan, Oyo State. In 2016, she founded “Mercy Aigbe Gentry School of Drama” for acting lovers.
She was married to Lanre Gentry from 2013 to 2019. She married Kareem Adeoti in 2022.
