Meta INC is all set to bring back messenger into the Facebook mobile app. Facebook head Tom Alison has reportedly said that the social media platform is testing bringing back a messenger to the Facebook app.
Alison wrote in a blog post, “We are testing the ability for people to access their Messenger inbox within the Facebook app and you’ll see us expand this testing soon.”
The American multinational technology conglomerate Meta removed Messenger from the Facebook app in 2014. During that time, Facebook said that the move was introduced to avoid the confusion of having separate Facebook mobile messaging experiences. However, Meta is now testing out the new feature in order to reverse the move.
Reportedly, Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg wanted Facebook to become a “discovery engine.” Meta reportedly said in a blog post that “Facebook is not dead nor dying” because it has more than 2 billion users.
Alison said in a blog post that Meta, formerly known as Facebook, is trying to “make Facebook the best place for social discovery and sharing.” Alison further said that Meta aims to bring messaging back to the Facebook app in order to “make it easier for people to share what they discover on Facebook via messaging, without needing to switch to another app.”
Recently, Facebook redesigned its home feed to show more entertaining posts from across the platform to the users. Facebook wanted to keep users engaged longer on the platform.
Alison also told CNN that the introduction of the “discovery engine” strategy was just at the beginning of 2023. He said that Facebook wanted to grow more over the next two decades. He told CNN, “It’s going to be about helping you connect with the people that you know.”
