Meta’s Threads introduces Twitter-like feature called ‘Following’ tab

Threads app, an American social media application and social networking service owned and operated by Meta Platforms, has introduced a new feature called ‘Following’ tab just like the micro-blogging site Twitter.

Threads’ ‘Following’ tab will help users see posts from people they follow in chronological order. Threads, Elon Musk’s Twitter rival, is available for both Android and iOS users. However, the new feature is not yet available for all users.

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg wrote on Threads, “Started rolling out an option for a chronological feed of only people you’re following.” He also posted about the feature on Instagram.

Threads will also show the “For You” tab by default. A user must tap on the home icon on the bottom left of the app to use the ‘Following’ tab. Threads users need to repeat this process every time they open the app. Recently, Threads also launched a new translation feature that allows users to translate a post.

Adam Mosseri, an American businessman and the head of Instagram who previously served as an executive at Facebook, said that Threads would bring features like hashtags, increased search functionality, editable posts, desktop mode and the function to limit who can reply to your posts.

Earlier this month, the Threads app was launched to rival Elon Musk’s Twitter. It got 10 million sign-ups in the first seven hours of its launch. The app already has over 100 million users onboard.

Threads allow users to post threads, reply to others and follow other profiles. The users can also upload photos or videos up to 5 minutes long.

Earlier this week, Elon Musk also rebranded the Twitter app to ‘X’. He wrote on Twitter, “The Twitter name made sense when it was just 140 character messages going back and forth – like birds tweeting – but now you can post almost anything, including several hours of video.”
