Mining Veteran Ben Magara Named New Exxaro CEO

Exxaro Resources Limited chose Ben Magara to lead the company as CEO starting April 1, 2025. The firm conducted an accelerated search for a CEO during which Magara earned the presidential role before Acting CEO Riaan Koppeschaar returned to his previous position.

Mr. Magara has devoted 35 mining industry years to his profession. He established his industry leadership as Mining Engineer in Anglo American Coal then made a successful transformation of Lonmin Plc before selling it to Sibanye Stillwater for top results. In 2020 he launched Africa Mining & Metals Group (AMMG) as a business dedicated to battery metals and precious minerals. As an independent director Magara will continue with the Weir Plc FTSE100 role but needs to resign from Grindrod Limited Board.
