Amid a sagging economy, outrage is rippling across Nigeria as telecom providers including MTN and Airtel have elevated their data tariffs. MTN Nigeria who is the largest operator in the country has notably increased the cost of its most popular 15GB weekly data bundle threefold from 2,000 naira to 6,000 naira. Similarly Airtel has undertaken enormous price hikes across its data packages.

According to research data pricing has undergone great changes following the latest transformations. Then, MTN’s 1.5G monthly plan previously sold for 1,000 Naira changed to 1.8G and is now 1,500 Naira. The price of 20G rose from 5,500 naira to 7,500 naira while the 15G plan has gone from 4,500 naira to 6,500 naira. A steeper rise is seen on the larger data bundles where the 1.5TB 90 days plan rose from 150,000 naira to 240,000 naira while the 600GB 90 days plan rose from 75,000 naira to 120,000 naira.
