Mugabe Should be Reburied, According to a Zimbabwean judge.

A Zimbabwean court on Friday approved a traditional court’s decision to exhume and rebury former President Robert Mugabe’s body at a national shrine in the capital.

According to Mugabe family lawyer Fungai Chimwamurombe, the Chinhoyi Magistrates Court rejected an appeal by Mugabe’s children that the traditional court’s verdict should be ignored. The three children had challenged the traditional head of Mugabe’s rural home, Zvimba, in his exhumation decision.

The chief has jurisdiction over Mugabe’s current tomb in the Zvimba area. In May, Chief Stanley Wurayayi Mhondoro decided that Mugabe’s widow, Grace, had broken traditional norms by burying Mugabe in the family compound. Grace was also fined five cows and a goat for not properly burying the body.

Mugabe’s three children, who were not present at the chief’s court appearance, filed an appeal in June. According to the lawyer, Mugabe’s body is unlikely to be transported fast because the case is likely to drag on for a long time in the courts.
