NEWS: 50 Presumed Dead in Gold Mine Accident in DR Congo

At least 50 humans are concept to have misplaced their lives after an artisanal gold mine collapsed close to Kamituga, a mining town in the Mwenga Territory, South Kivu Province in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

Images and video footage posted on social media networks showed lots of humans – some of whom could be heard wailing on a hillside, round the mine-shaft entrance.

The cave-in took place on the Detroit mine website at around 3 pm neighborhood time on Friday following heavy rainfall as per a public assertion issued by way of Emiliane Itongwa, president of the Initiative of Support and Social Supervision of Women.

Accidents of this type are now not unusual in the unregulated artisanal mines in Congo.

On October sixteen last year, a landslide at a disused gold mine claimed sixteen lives, sixteen in October final year, whilst in June that equal yr forty three clandestine miners died in some other landslide at a copper and cobalt mine.

Dozens of mine accident-related deaths are reported each year in the region.
