Nigeria Govt Dissolves SARS After Series Of Protests From Citizens

Nigeria Government listened to the pleas of Nigerians on Sunday, They dissolved a distinctive police unit set up to fight violent crimes such as kidnapping and Armed robbery after deadly protests and a social media marketing campaign backed via song and cinema celebrities rose up in opposition to years of alleged abuses.

The president’s office and the Nigeria Police Force introduced the dissolution of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) with immediately effect.

The police declaration additionally introduced an investigation into allegations “of crimes committed towards citizens”, including that “the culprits will be punished”.

The investigation will involve human rights companies and civil society organisations, it said, adding that former SARS officers are to be redeployed into other units.
