The Federal government of Nigeria has said that around three million jobs will be created in the digital technology sector within four years.
Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi, the current Director-General of the National Information Technology Development Agency of Nigeria, said that three million jobs would be created within the next four years.
On the sidelines of a Public Sector Digital Innovation Summit on Friday in Abuja, Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi said that the National Information Technology Development Agency was working with the public and the private sector to complete the target of 3 million jobs before 2027.
Nigerians can expect the creation of 3 million jobs in the digital tech industry. The Federal government of Nigeria will work with stakeholders to train 3 million technical talents. People will get employment in the tech sector.
The Nigerian government will give priority to job placement. The level of digital literacy of the population will be increased by 70 per cent by the end of 2027.
The National Information Technology Development Agency will continue to work in collaboration with various stakeholders on behalf of the Federal government and the Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy.
Earlier this month, Nigeria pledged to invest $5 billion in tech startups for the next four years. Bosun Tijani, the Nigerian minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, announced the government plan to help Nigerian tech startups raise $5 billion yearly through funding by the year 2027.
The Nigerian minister said, “We intend to create an environment for startups to raise the funding they require.”
FG will also launch one ministry-led Public-Private Partnership (PPP) pilot programme per sector by 2027 to support tech and creative sectors across the country.
Dr Bosun Tijani revealed the plan to train three million tech talents. He explained that the initiative would start by training 1% of the target, totalling 30 000 individuals. He also pledged to establish Nigeria as a leader in AI inclusion.
