Rema becomes first African artist to perform at Ballon d’Or

Rema – a famous Nigerian rapper, singer and songwriter – has been creating headlines in recent days. He has enjoyed an impressive year with his hit single ‘Calm Down’. He has been in the limelight throughout the year because of ‘Calm Down,’ featuring Selena Gomez.

Nigerian artist Rema has now set another record. He became the first African artist to perform at the prestigious Ballon d’Or ceremony, organized by the France Football Federation to honor the best football players in the world. He said that it was a great honor for him to take Afrobeats to the global stage.

Nigerian singer Rema has expressed happiness over his recent performance at the prestigious 67th Ballon d’Or ceremony at Theatre du Chatelet in Paris, France, on October 30. He wrote on Instagram, “Afrobeat in the Ballon d’Or, I’m truly grateful for the opportunity.”

During the ceremony, he performed his hit song, ‘Calm Down’. With this, he became the first African and Nigerian artiste to sing at the Ballon d’Or. During his performance, IShowSpeed danced to the performance of Rema. In a video shared on social media, Speed was seen admiring Rema’s performance. 

Ballon d’Or is the 67th annual ceremony, presented by France Football magazine. The 2023 Ballon d’Or has recognized the best footballers in the world in the 2022–23 season. Lionel Messi has won the Ballon d’Or for the eighth time. Nigeria’s Victor Osimhen was ranked number 8 in the 2023 Ballon d’Or award. He became the first Nigerian to enter into the top ten list of the Ballon d’Or. The Napoli forward became one of the few Nigerians to attend the prestigious award.
