Simbine Beats Omanyala Again, But Season Looks Promising for Kenyan Sprinter

Kenyan sprint star Ferdinand Omanyala finished second at the opening race of the Diamond League in Xiamen, China, on Saturday. Omanyala ran the men’s 100m in 10.13 seconds. He was just behind Akani Simbine from South Africa, who won the race with a time of 9.99 seconds.

Jeremiah Azu from Great Britain came third, clocking 10.17 seconds in a very close race.

This was the second time this year that Omanyala and Simbine faced each other. Earlier, they raced at the Botswana Golden Grand Prix in Gaborone on April 12. In that race, Simbine also won, running 9.90 seconds, while Omanyala finished second with 10.00 seconds.

Omanyala, who holds the African record for the men’s 100m, has been busy this season. He also raced at the Ugandan national trials and at the Athletics South Africa (ASA) Grand Prix.

The season has just started, and Omanyala looks strong as he builds up for more races ahead.
