South Africa is disappointed with the EU’s travel ban

South Africa – President Cyril Ramaphosa of South Africa has expressed his unhappiness with the European Union over the recent travel ban imposed on southern African countries. The travel ban, which has been related to the finding of the novel highly mutated coronavirus variant Omicron, was termed by the president as unreasonable. According to President Ramaphosa, the outbreak of the Omicron variety should serve as a wake-up message to the rest of the globe that vaccine inequity cannot be tolerated.

“We are disappointed by numerous countries’ decisions to prevent travel from a number of Southern African countries, including our own. Rather than restricting travel, developed countries should help the efforts of developing countries’ economies to get and manufacture adequate vaccine doses for their people as soon as possible. ” Cyril Ramaphosa, President of South Africa, declared.

Dr. Edwin Dikoli, Botswana’s Minister of Health, says there are far better ways to deal with this issue than using it to stigmatize southern African countries. “We were worried that there appeared to be efforts to stigmatize the variation and the country in which it was discovered.” Even if the mutation originated in Botswana, detection was viewed as origination in this case, which should not be a concern. The issue should be the presence of the disease, which would prompt everyone to do all they can to prevent it from spreading.
