Salim Malik, a Pakistani former cricketer and captain, has said that team India intentionally lost to South Africa in the 2022 T20 World Cup to affect Pakistan’s progress.
India lost to South Africa by five wickets in Perth, the capital of Australia. According to Malik, India’s loss ended Pakistan’s chances of qualifying for the semifinals. He reportedly told 24 News HD, “India will never want Pakistan to progress. There has always been a rivalry between India and Pakistan.” Subsequently, co-panellist Wahab Riaz said, “That’s your opinion.”
When India lost the match to South Africa on Sunday, Pakistan fans also crictised the team on social media. South Africa won the match by five wickets. Subsequently, Pakistani fans had a massive meltdown on Twitter. One Pakistani fan wrote on Twitter, “Did India deliberately lose to put Pakistan in jeopardy?” Twitter was also filled with memes after the match.
Pakistan had already lost 2 out of 3 matches in the T20 World Cup. The fans wanted India to win. Pakistan is fifth in the Group 2 standings. South Africa is now at the top in the group 2 standings with five points, while India is now in the second position with its first defeat in three games. Bangladesh is in the third position, while Zimbabwe is in the fourth position.
India’s loss to SA means that Pakistan now has to beat South Africa on Thursday in Sydney to stay alive in the T20 World Cup tournament.
Team India opted to bat first and could manage a paltry 133/9 on the board in 20 overs. South Africa’s David Miller and Aiden Markram played a successful match. They smashed half-centuries to lead South Africa to a five-wicket win over India in the match. They took the innings to 40-3 at the halfway mark.
