The African countries often interact with the United States (US) troops. The US and Africa often collaborate in order to face local and global security threats. What are the top 5 African countries with US military bases and troops?

1. Djibouti

Djibouti, a country in East Africa, has a US military base and troops. Camp Lemonier, a Naval Expeditionary Base, is located in Djibouti city. Camp Lemonier is the only permanent US military base in Africa. It is active at Dijibouti-Ambouli International Airport.

2. Kenya

Manda Bay is a privately owned boutique located in the Lamu archipelago on Kenya’s coast. It is used by US troops as a base of operation. It became a full-time airfield in 2016. The US sent more personnel and aircraft.

3. Niger

Air Base 101 in Niamey and Air Base 201 in Agadez are operated by the US military. Reportedly, the US troops’ presence in Niger has helped the US to train local military units and combat terrorists on the ground. In Niamey, Nigerien and U.S. armed forces train and work simultaneously. 

4. Egypt

The Multinational Force & Observers (MFO) camp in Egypt is used by US military troops. It is an international peacekeeping organisation. The US military also runs a naval medical research unit to research infectious diseases. 

5. Cameroon

Contingency Location Garoua is a US Army base located in Garoua, Cameroon. The US military helps the Cameroonian Defense Forces in their effort to combat violent extremism. Reportedly, around 200 personnel work at the Contingency Location in Garoua.
