The United States issued Ambassador Ebrahim Rasool a one-way travel ticket from South Africa to show decreasing trust between the two nations. Secretary of State Marco Rubio made a public statement on Friday to ban Ambassador Rasool for his remarks about President Donald Trump as he leads a white supremacist movement.
The diplomatic conflict appeared after Trump chose to withdraw US financial support for South Africa. The White House took action based on how South Africa handles property ownership plus their genocide complaint with Israel at the International Court of Justice. The State Department has refused to schedule regular meetings between Ambassador Rasool and Republican network members since President Trump entered office on January 20.
South Africa’s government stated to explain its disappointment with the ambassador’s dismissal while promising to continue having positive ties with the US. According to Chrispin Phiri from International Relations and Cooperation the government of South Africa will handle this matter with official diplomatic agreements. Former U.S. Ambassador Patrick Gaspard evaluated South African and American relations as reaching their lowest point currently.
