Dejumo Lewis — a famous Nigerian film and television actor, famous for the Kabiyesi role in The Village Headmaster, Nigeria’s longest-running television soap opera — died in the early hours of December 23, 2023.

Renowned Veteran Nollywood actor Dejumo Lewis, famous for his role as Kabiyesi in “The Village Headmaster” film, passed away at the age of 80. 

Various actors and actresses in the Nollywood industry sent condolences to the family of Dejumo Lewis over his death. Saidi Balogun, a veteran Nigerian actor, film-maker, director, and producer, shared the news of Dejumo Lewis’ death on Instagram in the early hours of December 23, 2023.

What happened to Nollywood actor Dejumo Lewis?

Nollywood actor Dejumo Lewis died on Saturday. The exact cause of his death was not disclosed. 

Saidi Balogun said, “Good night DEJUMO LEWIS, may your soul rest in perfect peace. RIP.” However, Saidi Balogun did not reveal the cause of Dejumo Lewis’ death.

Dejumo Lewis was famous for his roles in ‘A Place in the Stars’, ‘Crossroads’, and ‘Power of 1’. He played the role of Kabiyesi in “The Village Headmaster”. 

The Village Headmaster was shown on NTA from 1968 to 1988. It was Nigeria’s longest-running television soap opera. The series also starred Justus Esiri and Femi Robinson. For his acting, he received the City People Movie Lifetime Achievement Award.

He was born on 28 July 1943 in Lagos, Nigeria’s largest city. He died on 23 December 2023 at the age of 80.

In his career, he left an indelible mark on Nigerian film and television series. His achievements were widely celebrated in the Nigerian entertainment industry.

His death led to an outpouring of condolences from the Nollywood  entertainment industry, with fans and colleagues alike mourning the loss. 

In recent days, Yoruba Nollywood industry has been mourning because of the death of Sunday Ossai, Akeem Alamutu, Yemi Adeyemi, Iyabo Oko, and Murphy Afolabi.

As the Nollywood entertainment community mourns the loss of Dejumo Lewis, his remarkable contributions to the Nigerian film industry must be remembered.
