What Led to the Fatal Explosion in Nigeria That Killed 70?

According to Nigeria’s emergency response organisation, a petrol truck crashed early Saturday morning and exploded killing at least 70 people in north-central Nigeria. Locals who had hurried to gather the fuel that was spilled when the truck collapsed made up almost all of the victims.

According to the Federal Road Safety Corps, the majority of them were completely destroyed by fire. This incident was not the first of its type. Fatal truck accidents are frequent on the majority of Nigeria’s main roadways due to the lack of an effective railway system for moving freight.

Since President Bola Tinubu eliminated a decades old gasoline subsidy in May 2023, the price of petrol has increased by more than 400 percent. Because of this, a lot of people have put their lives in danger to rescue fuel during tanker truck accidents.

A similar occurrence occurred in Jigawa State, northern Nigeria in October of last year killing over 170 people.
