Zimbabwe Swimmer Sets Championship Record At African Junior Swimming Championships

Zimbabwe swimmer and Gateway High School student, Donata Katai has set a new World record at the African Junior Swimming Championships in Tunisia.

Katai won a gold medal in the 100m backstroke after finishing in 1 minute 4.63 seconds. This was revealed by Star FM’s head of sport, Steve Vickers, in his Twitter post.

Vickers said:

Donata Katai has won gold for Zimbabwe at the African Junior Swimming Championships in Tunisia in the 100m backstroke. Katai set a championship record of 1 min 4.63 seconds. She is a Gateway High School student, coached by Kathy Lobb.

Zimbabwe used to get gold medals in the swimming category during the days of now Minister of Youth, Sport, Arts and Recreation, Kirsty Coventry.
