The South African National Defence Force (SANDF) on Friday denied reports that soldiers were not be willing to go to Wuhan to evacuate South Africa citizens, due to the coronavirus outbreak.
According to EWN, more than 180 South Africans in the Chinese city have noted that they want to come home due to the CODVID-19 outbreak that has killed more than 3 000 lives globally.
Health Minister Dr Zweli Mkhize confirmed its first coronavirus case on Thursday 5 March — a 38-year-old man from KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) who recently returned home from Italy.
The Mail & Guardian reported that SANDF members wouldn’t want to risk their lives by travelling to the epicentre of the coronavirus, however, its spokesperson Siphiwe Dlamini said it couldn’t be far from the truth.
Dlamini said soldiers were trained for these kinds of missions where there was a high risk.
