Japan deepens support for health and border management in Sudan

Japan has contributed $1.5 million to the International Organisation for Migration (IOM) to implement an urgently needed response to the Sudan humanitarian crisis – supporting emergency health and border management in the country.

Sudan is currently facing one of the most serious humanitarian crises on the planet. The situation is extremely concerning as the army and a paramilitary group engage in a brutal conflict for nearly a couple of years.

Sudan is facing an alarming displacement crisis. Unsanitary gathering areas for displaced people are turning into breeding grounds for deadly disease outbreaks, such as dengue, malaria, measles and cholera. Tens of thousands of Cholera cases have been confirmed recently.

In these difficult and challenging times, Japan continues its support, enabling IOM to ensure essential humanitarian assistance for the people of Sudan. It has been estimated that 65% of the population lacks access to adequate healthcare.
