NjiaPay One-Click Checkout

NjiaPay Launches One-Click Checkout in South Africa: Can It Revamp African E-commerce?

The South African fintech NjiaPay has introduced a new one-click checkout solution that allows for simplifying the payments process and dealing with one of the major problems of e-commerce—cart abandonment.

NjiaPay One-Click Checkout, The company claims that the introduction of such technology allows merchants to increase payment success rates, while offering a more convenient checkout to their shoppers.

As most of the online retailers in Africa struggle with high payment failure rates and complicated payment systems, NjiaPay suggests that its latest innovation can help businesses to increase conversion rates without being locked into a single payment provider.

Reasons for NjiaPay to Introduce One-Click Checkout

According to NjiaPay, the cart abandonment rate in South African online retailers is about 83% as the majority of customers leave the sites because of a long payment process.

Ordinary online payments often require consumers to constantly enter their card data, undergo one-time-password (OTP) confirmation or even 3-D Secure authentication in order to make a purchase.

The recently developed NjiaPay one-click checkout is designed to eliminate these inconveniences from the shopping process for already authenticated customers, thus making their subsequent purchases more convenient.

NjiaPay believes that by reducing superfluous barriers in the payment process, both customer experience and merchant earnings can be improved.

How Does the Technology Work?

The key part of the system is provider-agnostic tokenization that will store payment data via encrypted digital tokens without disclosing consumer card data.

Unlike standard solutions that lock merchants to a particular PSP, the new technology gives businesses an opportunity to retain their customer payment tokens despite changing PSPs in the future.

In this way, merchants can take advantage of different payment processors that offer better pricing, reliability, or availability in a particular area without losing their customer payment data.

Also, the NjiaPay platform serves as a payment orchestration layer that works with leading e-commerce platforms, including Shopify and WooCommerce, and multiple local payment options, including Capitec Pay VRP.

Can this Make Shopping Online Easier for Africa?

The digital commerce environment in Africa is rather fragmented, with online merchants having to use several payment gateways to be able to reach out to customers from different African countries.

This makes it hard to process payments, causes inconsistency in customers’ experiences, and results in low conversion rates.

According to NjiaPay, their solution would help resolve this problem as it enables merchants to redirect payments through the most appropriate providers without compromising the seamless checkout experience of returners.

They expect their technology to boost card-on-file transaction rates by 5% to 10%, and increase payment success rates for returning customers by up to 15%.

For small and medium businesses, this means being able to offer checkout experiences usually offered only by large e-commerce sites and delivery apps.

How It Helps African Merchants – NjiaPay One-Click Checkout

In an era when e-commerce is flourishing throughout Africa, companies are becoming more concerned with how to reduce friction in payment and enhance customer retention.

By making one-click payment processes easier, it will be possible for retailers to boost the number of transactions with little additional cost in marketing.

Apart from facilitating integration with different payment gateways, the feature to save customer payment details will help retailers adapt to any changes in market dynamics. The way this is accepted by the merchants and their clients will determine whether it becomes a game-changer in the payment system in the African digital economy.
