Namibia’s President, Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, has removed Agriculture Minister Mac-Albert Hengari from his position. The decision came after serious allegations of rape involving a minor. The President’s office confirmed on Sunday that Hengari’s dismissal is effective from April 23, 2025.

Local media reports say Hengari might also face other charges like abduction and abortion. In Namibia, both are against the law. A police spokesperson said that an investigation is going on. The accusations were made by a minor, but details have not been fully shared yet.

Hengari was the Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries, Water, and Land Reform. He was in an important position of the government. So, this is a big move !

President Nandi-Ndaitwah who is the first female president of the Namibia, took office in March 2025. She decided to act quickly after learning about the serious accusations. She is known for her long career with the ruling SWAPO party, which has been in power since Namibia gained independence in 1990.

The case is still under investigation. The government has said it will continue to support justice and protect the rights of all citizens.
