This Friday the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) will lead a march against Kleinfontein located in eastern Pretoria which remains a controversial settlement. The demonstration intends to confront the segregationist activities that critics accuse Kleinfontein of practicing since the end of apartheid in South Africa.
The Pretoria area contains the investigated police operation of Kleinfontein which follows regulations similar to those used in Orania in the Northern Cape region. Residents state that this location serves the Afrikaner people by being their ethnic center although racial discrimination does not occur.
The spokesperson of Kleinfontein, Dannie de Beer, told Eyewitness News that “Anybody of any colour that fits the Afrikaner culture and applies successfully can live here.”
The EFF opposes Kleinfontein as a racially segregated settlement because according to the organization “Kleinfontein should not continue to exist as an exclusively white community thirty years after democracy.” The party views this territory as an apartheid-friendly social enclave.
The uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party recently joined other critics in denouncing the controversial policies implemented by Kleinfontein because these measures violate fundamental constitutional values of non-discrimination and equality in South African society.
The upcoming Friday protest raised tensions while demonstrating ongoing arguments about protecting cultural characteristics against progressive social integration in South Africa’s diverse national community.
