In a fiery statement on Tuesday, US President Donald Trump lashed out at India for its continued purchases of Russian oil, announcing plans to dramatically raise tariffs on Indian imports in the next 24 hours.
This situation is getting tenser each passing hour. India rejected the criticism, arguing that its energy imports from Russia are necessary because of the global market conditions. Delhi also highlighted the US and the EU’s purchases of Russian commodities.
During a press conference just hours back (originally meant to focus on the 2028 Olympics in California), the US President had to address questions about his country’s imports of uranium and fertilizers from Russia. His response, nonetheless, has been quite limited.

Top Russian commodities imported by US in 2024-2025
“I have to check it out,” Trump said. It appears the US President currently does not have much information about the country’s imports of uranium and fertilizers from Russia. Nonetheless, his response at the press conference is trending in different countries.
It has been reported that since January 2022, the US has imported $24.51 billion of Russian goods. This includes, $624 million of uranium and plutonium, $878 million of palladium and $1.27 billion of fertilizers in just 2024.
