MasterChef Nigeria season one has begun, bringing more fun-filled moments and competition than ever before.
It was the beginning of the competition with the participation of ten contestants who were aiming to become the winner and get the grand prize of ₦73M.
First Episode Ends With a Shocking Twist
Excitement, nerves, and anticipation greeted the start of the inaugural MasterChef Nigeria episode.

Contestants’ first task required them to open a mystery box containing a photo of an individual who had contributed significantly to their lives. They had one hour to prepare a signature meal inspired by the individual.

With an attempt to showcase her Delta origins, she decided to create a unique meal of pan-fried catfish, garri polenta, and palm nut velouté (banga soup).
However, she didn’t have enough time to put everything together on the plate, resulting in automatic disqualification for Pearl. She left the contest as the first contestant to be eliminated.
Another Elimination – Margaret Follows Suit
Viewers expected that once Pearl is eliminated, there wouldn’t be any more contestants to follow suit. Yet, there was one more elimination to surprise the crowd.
With just nine dishes made by contestants, the judges declared that another contestant was to leave the show.
Inspired by her employers, Margaret (42) created an exquisite plate of egusi soup, semo, sautéed spinach, fried plantain, and okra.
However, the judges found her creation too complicated. In the words of Chef Stone, simplicity always beats complexity in the MasterChef kitchen.
Margaret became the second contestant to leave the show, making it the most surprising episode to date.

Best Performance in the Kitchen
Though two contestants have left, some have made their presence felt in the kitchen.
David (24) made a dish of the day with his unique egusi purée, accompanied by eba, ugwu oil, and suya.
Favy (26) impressed the judges with her sophisticated Warri coconut rice and Ethiopian-style stew.
Isabella (39) shone with her Kartoffelsuppe (German potato soup). Chef Eros assured Isabella that he would happily order the dish at any restaurant.
Preye (34) surprised the judges with a dish based on the life story of his grandfather, a pepper soup consommé.
Even the contestants who failed technically, such as Derry (29), have demonstrated potential.

Two contestants have already left the competition. The message to the remaining contestants is loud and clear: there is no warm-up period in the MasterChef kitchen.
The MasterChef kitchen requires precision, innovation, and the ability to handle stress in the kitchen. The smallest mistake will cost the contestant the competition.
