‘Battle on Buka Street’, the Nigerian comedy-drama film directed by Funke Akindele, set a new Nollywood record for grossing over N135 million in just one day.
It also remains the number one Nollywood film project for the second successive week. Funke Akindele has announced the news on social media. She wrote on Instagram, “Buka on Battle Street hits N135 million, the biggest single day for a Nollywood film in 2022. Work hard! Pray hard!”
‘Battle on Buka Street’ premiered on December 11, 2022. The official release date was 16 December 2022.
The story of the film revolves around the ‘battle’ between two women who fight against each other in a food challenge to win the ‘King of Buka Street’ title and become the best local food seller in the region. They want to set up their food business in the same region. The film centres on a street called “Buka Street”– which is famous for its special preparation of Buka Food by famous chefs.
The film stars Femi Jacobs, Mercy Johnson, Kelvin Ikeduba, Bimbo Ademoye, Tina Mba, Sola Sobowale, Nkem Owoh, Tobi Makinde and Funke Akindele. The film has been produced in collaboration between Funke Ayotunde Akindele Network (FAAN) and FilmOne Entertainment.
Funke Akindele is a famous Nigerian film actress, politician and producer. She is currently 45 years old.
This year, she was nominated by the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) gubernatorial candidate, Abdul-Azeez Olajide Adediran, as the running mate for the upcoming 2023 Lagos state governorship election.
