Under the direction of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister, and Ruler of Dubai, Dubai Humanitarian (DXB-H) has effectively enabled the delivery of urgently needed relief goods to N’djamena, the capital of Chad. This vital project seeks to assist more than 70,000 Sudanese people by means of much-needed relief from pain and protection of life in the area.
A Boeing 747 cargo flight loaded with 90 metric tons of vital medical supplies, shelter materials, and relief items took off Saturday, 31st August, at 9:00 am in response to the growing humanitarian catastrophe from Al Maktoum International Airport. Supporting the displaced Sudanese population depends critically on these goods supplied by the World Health Organisation (WHO) and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR).
In such emergencies, Giuseppe Saba, CEO and Board Member of Dubai Humanitarian, underlined the need for fast reaction. “Our reaction’s speed at these pivotal times might be the difference between life and death. Our capacity for fast mobilization and relief delivery is evidence of the great cooperation and consistent support from Dubai’s government. This airlift to Chad emphasizes our continuous support of underprivileged populations all around,” Saba said.
Essential for treating thousands of people in need of immediate medical aid, the WHO’s donation consists of 37 metric tons of life-saving infusions. “This charter flight provided by Dubai Humanitarian is vital to overcoming logistics challenges and represents tremendous support to WHO’s ongoing health emergency response,” said Robert Blanchard, Emergency Operations Manager at WHO Global Logistics Hub.

UNHCR delivered 53 metric tons of vital supplies, therefore playing a major part in the effort. Head of Supply Management Service at UNHCR Benjamin Safari thanked Dubai Humanitarian. “This airlift will let UNHCR help 68,000 people in the Darfur region displaced by heavy floods and already hit by famine,” Safari said.
Dubai Humanitarian’s Global Humanitarian Impact Fund totally supported the relief airlift, which cost AED1.48 million ($405,000).
