Instagram to end live shopping feature on March 16

Instagram, a photo and video-sharing social networking service owned by Meta Platforms, has announced it will be ending its live shopping feature, which enables the user to tag products in their live broadcasts.

Reportedly, the action to discontinue Instagram’s live shopping feature will be implemented from March 16 onwards. Instagram wrote on its support page, “Beginning on March 16, 2023, you will no longer be able to tag products in live broadcasts on Instagram. This change will help us focus on products and features that provide the most value to our users.”

However, the users could still be able to set up and run their online shops on Instagram because the social media company will continue to “invest in shopping experiences for people and businesses across the Instagram feed, stories, Reels, ads and more.”

Reportedly, other live broadcasting features on Instagram will be unaffected. Instagram users can still schedule a live broadcast on their page and can invite guests to join their live broadcast. They are still allowed to hold a live Q&A on Instagram.

Last month, Instagram said it would remove the shopping tab from the main bar at the bottom of the screen from February. Reportedly, the button to create a new post on Instagram will move down and the Reels tab would replace the Shop tab. Instagram has already updated the interface, where the notification bar has gone up.

Instagram is available in 32 languages. The size of the app is 231.3 MB for iOS users; 50.22 MB for Android users; 50.3 MB for Fire OS. People can share photos and videos on this app. The photos and videos can be edited with filters and organised by hashtags and geographical tagging.
