International Day for Tolerance – UAE is “Home for all” and a “beacon of Tolerance”

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has always been considered an important player in the international business environment. But beyond the economic powerhouse, the UAE is increasingly becoming a role model in tolerance and a reliable friend for African countries. On the International Day for Tolerance, it is our privilege to acknowledge the UAE’s vision, endeavors, and support of tolerance, collaboration, and growth throughout Africa.

The UAE has a unique geographic location for connecting the Middle East and Africa owing to their progressive vision. Over the years the leadership of the country has been keen on maintaining economic and political relations with African countries. This commitment is expressed in the number of programs and cooperation agreements aimed at productive and sustainable development in Africa.

International Trade and Development Cooperation

The UAE’s exports to South Africa are still rising fast and between 2020 and 2024, the exports rose by 45%. South Africa imported goods worth $4 billion from the UAE in 2023 while exports to the UAE stand at $2.53 billion. Over the past few years, the South African investment in the UAE has been $ 600 million, while UAE investment in South Africa is $ 1.3 billion. Some of them are agriculture, finance and technology, power, and pharmaceutical. This partnership has generated so many business opportunities since both the governments and other players in the two countries are focused on improving economic cooperation between them.

Humanitarian Aid and Relief

The UAE has been providing significant support to Sudan and other close African countries as part of humanitarian support. In response to a promised USD 100 million, the UAE has committed 70 percent of this to United Nations agencies and other humanitarian organizations to help the victims of the crisis in Sudan. UAE also established air supply to Sudan and Chad providing USD 130 million in aid, 9,500 tonnes of food and medicines in 148 flights. Also, one ship was dispatched an hour later and it was carrying 1,000 tonnes of humanitarian aid food and drinks to try and lessen the situation.

Culturally related and The Issue of Diversity

The UAE and Africa as we have seen have a symbiotic relationship that has grown over the years across several sectors including cultural and economic as well as environmental. The emirate of UAE continues to support the cause of African heritage and promote Africa’s cultural history. It also addresses common issues such as climate change: UAE supports African countries in implementing renewable power station projects. Furthermore, the support of the UAE for the African heritage and environmental causes corresponds to the UN Sustainable Development Goals enhancing prosperity, recognizing cultural differences, and increasing the relations between the UAE and African nations for a better future.

A Vision for the Future

For the UAE which has been expanding its relations with Africa, the prospects seem bright. The two regions have a common desire to live in a peaceful environment rather than develop and grow economically. This way the UAE and the African continent have a greater untapped potential that will serve the interest of future generations.

As we celebrate the International Day for Tolerance it is good to acknowledge UAE’s contribution towards making Africa a better place. Therefore, practicing and advocating for diversity can create a positive work environment, and reduce discrimination and prejudice in society.
