The complaint was filed for alleged human trafficking which according to the woman was executed by the late footballer. Mavys Álvarez is the woman who filed the complaint where she claimed that she was in a relationship with Maradona when she was 16-years-old.
According to her, the former footballer subjected her to physical abuse and sexual violence and also introduced her to various kinds of drugs. The matter came into existence on Monday during a press conference in Buenos Aires where the victim had stated that the matter was covered up due to the close association of Fidel Castro’s government and Maradona’s close associates.
She was in a relationship with the former player for nearly five years and as per her, she started to face violence in the last two to three years of the relationship.
The football legend had to spend several years in Cuba to treat his cocaine addiction and it was Castro who had invited him to the country. This happened when he found out that Maradona had overdosed himself, an incident that nearly killed him.
She arrived in Buenos Aires last week to testify in the matter in front of the Argentine justice system in the sexual harassment case. Maradona died last year in November but the representatives of the women council stresseded targeting the close associates who helped cover the matter. This includes his former manager Guillermo Coppola and other Argentinean friends who were also present with him during his stay in Cuba.
