A Popular Event of Exchange, Reflection, and Debate
The third edition of the Paris African Book Fair commenced on March 15, 2024, at the town hall of the 6th arrondissement, Place Saint-Sulpice, in the French capital. Since its inception in 2021, the Fair has gained popularity as a platform for exchange, reflection, and debate. It serves as an opportunity to celebrate and promote African literature while paying tribute to African writers, poets, publishers, and those of African descent. Over the course of three days, Paris transformed into the literary capital of African books.
Promoting African Literature and Honoring African Writers
The Paris African Book Fair aims to address the need for legitimacy, presence, and visibility of African literature in France, Europe, and beyond. It provides a space for writers and publishers to engage with the public, discussing Africa’s place in the world from the perspectives of African writers, poets, and descendants of Africa. The Fair brings together more than 200 authors and 80 publishers from Africa, Europe, the Americas, and the Caribbean to celebrate the diversity of a thriving global literature.

The theme chosen for the 2024 edition of the African Book Fair in Paris was “Breaking Boundaries of Imagination, Rethinking Futures.” This theme sparked discussions during thirty conferences and round tables designed for school audiences and the general public. The Fair delved into the works of authors in French, English, Arabic, Portuguese, and over 1,000 African languages, exploring various literary genres such as stories, literature, tales, current affairs, comics, and children’s publishing.
