South Africa’s limited-overs coach Rob Walter has said that he is ready to welcome Faf du Plessis, former captain of South Africa, back to the South Africa national cricket team.
Walter revealed that South Africa needs quality players like Du Plessis for a resurgence after the recent performance of the team. Walter talked about Du Plessis to the Rapport newspaper. He said that Du Plessis can return to play for shorter formats. Walter said that he was open to discussions with Du Plessis about playing for South Africa again.
Walter reportedly said, “Faf has not retired yet. He is still playing very well in T20 cricket. He will build his future around T20 leagues.” He further added, “I would like to talk about the possibility of Faf playing for South Africa again.”
Du Plessis was not picked for South Africa’s team for their upcoming ODI (One Day International) series against England.
Recently, Du Plessis became the talk of the town for his fielding effort while playing for Joburg Super Kings. He pulled off a catch to dismiss Roelof can der Merwe of the Sunrisers Eastern Cape. The videos of the match went viral among fans on social media. People lauded him for catching the ball.
Recently, Cricket South Africa (CSA) hired Rob Walter to appoint him as a coach for the white-ball team in the upcoming fixtures. Walter would be handling the responsibility in limited-over games.
South Africa’s director of cricket, Enoch Nkwe, said, “Walter’s leadership is very strong and he is clear in his mind about how to move South African cricket forward.” Earlier, Walter coached the Titans and New Zealand’s Otago Volts.
