WHO Strengthens Global Health EmergencyResponse Through Strategic Partnership withUAE

WHO has reached an important achievement of cooperation with the United ArabEmirates and signed the host country agreement on the creation of the WHO Hub forGlobal Health Emergencies Logistics. The memorandum signed in Abu Dhabi by UAEMinister of State for International Cooperation Reem Al Hashimy and WHO’s DeputyDirector General Dr. Michael Ryan sets out a UAE pledge of $3m to fund the healthcareneeds of refugees from Sudan in Chad, underlining the UAE’s expanding commitmentto international health.When WHO started its operations in the UAE in 2015 through the Regional Hub inDubai, the initial operations were small and have grown tenfold in the recent past.Situated well in the center of the distribution, the hub has been able to enhance thevalue of WHO health supplies transit by 400% and address global health emergencies.This expansion is due to the UAE and its logistics and the availability of emergencyhealth response services in the world market.https://x.com/UAE_Forsan/status/1854637505574060184UAE’s $3 million will go directly toward the enhancement of the health sector for onlySudanese refugees in Chad mainly focusing its aid on maternal and child health. Thisfunding will improve immunization, and nutrition and build the capacity of affectedprovincial health systems. The partnership simply shows that the UAE is ready to helpmeet humanitarian challenges around the world, as stated by Minister Al Hashimy andWHO Director-General Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus.
