A gorilla trekking adventure in Uganda and Rwanda gives a wonderful chance to see endangered mountain gorillas naturally wandering the trees of Uganda’s Mwindi Impenetrable National Park and Mgahinga Gorilla National Park as well as Rwanda’s Volcanoes National Park.
Permit Requirements and Costs
In order for visitors to go gorilla trekking they need permits. In Uganda permits cost $800 per person, while in Rwanda permits cost $1,500 per person. Due to the limited availability of permits, it’s essential to budget and secure your gorilla trekking pass several months ahead of your planned trip.
Visitors need to contact the wildlife authorities in the country to purchase their permits because the quota is limited.
Age and Health Restrictions
Trekkers are only eligible if they are 15 or older to respect the safety of all visitors and gorillas. Individuals who are symptomatic of communicable diseases (colds, flu, etc.) are not permitted to participate to avoid the possibility of transmission to the gorillas.

Gorilla Trekking
Gorilla treks can last from 1 hour to 6 hours, depending on the location of the gorilla families. Groups are limited to 8 to reduce disturbance. Once the gorillas are found, there is an hour service where guests can watch and photograph the gorillas from a minimum distance of 7 meters away.
