Who Is Beth Arendse? New CEO of Business and Arts South Africa from July 2025

Business and Arts South Africa (BASA) has revealed that Beth Arendse has been appointed as BASA’s new Chief Executive Officer, effective from 1 July 2025. As an experienced, innovative leader with over 25 years of accomplishments in South Africa’s creative and cultural sector, Arendse brings visionary, experiential industry knowledge coupled with a commitment to inclusive growth to BASA.

Her appointment comes at a crucial time, as BASA looks to reinforce the role that the creative economy can play in supporting South Africa’s development. Best known for working at the intersection of arts, entrepreneurship and education, Beth has been a champion for youth empowerment and sustainability of the arts sector.

Trailblazing Contributions to the Creative Economy

Beth Arendse has introduced a number of flagship programs, including the SA Creative Industries Incubator (SACII), Tshwane School of Music and the Music Business Lab. These platforms have transformed the lives of hundreds of young creatives because they have provided them with skills development, business training as well as access to new markets.

She also has an influence at national levels of policy making. Over the years, Arendse has served as a member of various advisory structures including the Presidential Commission for the Fourth Industrial Revolution and the National Advisory Council on Innovation, contributing to strategies to explore and adapt to rapidly changing technologies relevant to the arts sector.

A Bold Vision for BASA’s Future

Arendse will oversee a strategic transformation of BASA, including changes to its Membership Tiers for creatives, businesses and policy makers. “It’s her entrepreneurial spirit and innovative thinking that made her a standout,” said BASA chairperson Zingisa Motloba.

Arendse elaborated on her plans for striking bold partnerships that will position creatives at the center of economic and social advancement:

“I believe in the power of the creative economy to create opportunity, create livelihoods and unleash the full potential of South Africa.”
