The demand for domestic air transportation is increasing in July 2026 due to the emergence of many airlines that are offering both domestic and international flight routes that are designed to increase connectivity, tourism, business travel, and trade in the region. Many airlines are offering direct flights between the countries and continents by providing new flight routes in Africa.
Some of the major airlines that have launched new flight services in July 2026 include Qatar Airways, Ethiopian Airlines, Royal Air Maroc, Etihad Airways, and Air Côte d’Ivoire.
Flight Route Expansion of Qatar Airways in Africa
Qatar Airways is one of the busiest airlines that keeps on expanding its flight routes in Africa in July 2026.
Three flights per week have been added to the airline’s schedule to Port Sudan International Airport from 2 July 2026, which will facilitate an international route for Sudan.
Flights will provide greater options for businessmen, humanitarian agencies, and travelers connecting in Doha to fly to destinations in Europe, Asia, and North America.
Moreover, Qatar Airways has initiated daily flights to the beautiful destination of Marrakesh, Morocco, which would further enhance the connection between the Gulf and North Africa.
Apart from that, Qatar Airways has increased flights to various destinations on the African continent, which include Cairo, Cape Town, Dar es Salaam, and Maputo.
Air Côte d’Ivoire Plans for Southern Africa Extension
The West African airline, Air Côte d’Ivoire, plans to establish regional connectivity by introducing a new route connecting Abidjan, Lagos, and Johannesburg.
The new route will be operated through the airline’s Airbus A330-900neo, and it will be one of the few routes connecting both West Africa and Southern Africa without passing through Europe or the Middle East.
The new route is likely to facilitate business travel and tourism between three major commercial destinations on the African continent.
Growth of Ethiopian Airlines in Europe
The largest air carrier in Africa is continuously developing its network of flights.
Additional flights have been introduced on the route Addis Ababa – Lyon, France, operated by Airbus A350-900, which increases the number of connections between East Africa and Europe.
The new route will serve passenger and cargo services while enhancing the role of Addis Ababa airport as the leader among other airports in Africa.
In addition to that, Ethiopian Airlines continues investments into its fleet development and international collaboration, increasing its network of flights in Europe, Asia, and America.
Growth of Etihad Airways Connection in Africa
Even though Etihad Airways is based in the United Arab Emirates, it is expanding opportunities for the connection of African passengers through its hub located in Abu Dhabi.
Etihad Airways boosted connectivity in various destinations in Ghana, Nigeria, Eritrea, Zimbabwe, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo, connecting the aforementioned locations more effectively with Asia, Australia, and Europe.
Etihad Airways enhanced cooperation with Fastjet Zimbabwe, allowing customers leaving from Harare and Victoria Falls to have more international destinations available.
Royal Air Maroc Improves International Routes
Royal Air Maroc (RAM) continues to develop its route map as Morocco becomes an increasingly important transit point between Africa and Europe.
One of the recently introduced routes is the flight between Casablanca and Lille, France, which began operating in July 2026.
Throughout the year, the airline has added more medium- and long-haul services, which have helped the tourism sector of Morocco and improved the connections between Europe and North Africa for business and diaspora travelers.
Implications for Passengers of These New Routes?
The newly added routes show the increased necessity of improving air connectivity in Africa.
Direct flights reduce travel time, avoid transit stops, and increase options for traveling for both leisure and business reasons. Improved air connectivity will be beneficial not only for tourism but also for investments and cargo movements from and to Africa and other parts of the world.
With further efforts of airlines in expanding their fleet and route network, passengers will be provided with more opportunities to connect in Africa during the remaining months of 2026.
