After being set free, Moussa Mara issued a video message through his Facebook page urging Malians to forget about politics and strive for national unity.
The former prime minister asked the citizens to practice forgiveness and understanding in the quest for peace amid political insecurity.
Additionally, Mara raised alarm about the disappearance of one of his lawyers and the need for more respect for law and order.
His statement was diplomatic in nature in that he did not confront military authority but emphasized the need for unity at a time when the nation is undergoing a difficult period.

Mara’s release happens at a time when Mali is being run by the military leader, General Assimi Goïta, who had taken power after military coups in 2020 and 2021.
Since taking control, the military regime has dissolved political parties, delayed democratic elections, and enacted policies that extend the transition period to five years.
Opposition leaders and former government officials have continued to undergo legal and political challenges, with many critics noting that the military regime has significantly reduced civic space.
