A New Era Is Dawning In UAE-Algeria Relations

Algeria’s relationship with the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has been strengthened in recent months. After a period of silent crises that have led Algeria into isolation in the Middle East region, the UAE has taken efforts to normalize ties and strengthen its communication with Algeria.

Recently, His Excellency Yousef Saif Sebaa Al Ali, the Ambassador of the United Arab Emirates to Algeria, presented his credentials as non-resident Ambassador of the UAE to His Excellency Captain Ibrahim Traoré, the interim leader of Burkina Faso.

His Excellency Yousef Saif Sebaa Al Ali conveyed greetings from His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the third president of the United Arab Emirates and the ruler of Abu Dhabi, to His Excellency Captain Ibrahim Traoré.

His Excellency Captain Ibrahim Traoré wished His Excellency Yousef Saif Sebaa Al Ali success in his duties.

UAE-Algeria relations

Earlier this year, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan invited Abdelmadjid Tebboune, the President of Algeria, to the UAE in order to strengthen relations between the two countries.

In a bid to re-establish relations with Arab countries, Algeria thanked the UAE. Abdelmadjid Tebboune wrote a letter to the UAE President regarding bilateral relations and ways to improve relations between the two nations.

Last year, United Arab Emirates’ imports from Algeria was US$8.51 Million. UAE’s exports to Algeria was US$815.02 Million. 

Earlier this year, the 15th session of the joint UAE-Algeria Economic Committee was held in Abu Dhabi, the capital of the UAE, under the chairmanship of Abdullah bin Touq Al Marri, the Minister of Economy, and Algerian Minister of Industry, Ahmed Zaghdar.

The UAE minister of economy said, “Economic cooperation is one of the major pillars of the two countries’ solid ties.” Abdullah bin Touq Al Marri further said, “The non-oil trade between the two countries has recovered from the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic, growing 14 % from $701 million in 2020 to around $800 million by the end of 2022.”

In 2021, the UAE’s investment inflows to Algeria was around $600 million. The bilateral trade between the two countries has increased since 2016. The bilateral trade between Algeria and the UAE was Dh3.6 billion in 2015. Algeria exported US$19.11 million in 2021 to the United Arab Emirates and imported US$796.58 million in 2021 from the UAE.

The two countries aim to increase their bilateral trade in the coming years.
