The past weekend marked the start of the quarter-finals in the prestigious CAF Champions League, with the Egyptian team Al Ahly taking center stage. After securing a 1-0 victory in the first leg against Simba, the Cairo-based club trained on Thursday in preparation for the return match.
Al Ahly’s head coach, Marcelo Koller, expressed confidence in his team’s prospects for the upcoming match. “The 1-0 result is good and positive, and of course, it gives us confidence. But there is a big difference between confidence and arrogance, and I spoke to the players to let them know that I don’t want to see any arrogance or complacency, and I said that after the end of the last match in the dressing room. As Ramy Rabia said, this match requires concentration until the last minute, and there is no room for arrogance or relaxation in this game,” stated Koller.
Despite their favorable position, the defending champions could face tough opponents such as TP Mazembe or Petro de Luanda as they seek to clinch the title for the twelfth time in their history.
However, Simba’s players remain confident in their chances. “We may not be playing at home, but we have come here to play football. This sport is played on the field, and we are the main actors. The supporters will react based on what we produce on the field. So, I am convinced that if we offer quality gameplay, we can win the match and win over the supporters. It all rests on us, and it depends on our performance,” declared Che Malone, a defender for Simba.
