The football fraternity in Uganda mourns the passing of SC Villa captain David Owori following a suspected robbery attack in Makindye, Kampala. The 27-year-old defender and midfielder succumbed to injuries sustained during the robbery attack when he resisted theft of his cell phone, among others.

The robbery attack took place late Tuesday evening when Owori was heading back home in the Makindye suburb of Kampala.

Witnesses say he was attacked with paving stones before the robbers stole his cell phone among other belongings and fled.

He was found unconscious, taken to a medical clinic and then admitted to a private hospital in Kampala, where he died due to injuries.

The police confirmed that investigations into the matter have begun.

Police Investigate Suspected Robbery

The spokeswoman for the Uganda Police Force, Rachael Kawala, said the crime scene was investigated, and evidence was gathered.

The police authorities believed that Owori had been attacked because of an attempted robbery, but investigations are ongoing.

Police are appealing to the public for any help in order to find the culprits.

SC Villa Pays Tribute to Its Captain

SC Villa paid tribute to their captain in the statement made about the death of Owori.

“We have lost not just a player, we have lost a leader, brother and a friend.”

Owori was one of the oldest members of the team, having joined it after coming back to SC Villa in 2023, after playing in Europe for two years.
