The United Arab Emirates has launched its orphanage project in Ethiopia’s Oromia region on the orders of President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
Dr. Abiy Ahmed who is the Prime Minister of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia officially opened the orphanage in front of several UAE and Ethiopian officials as well as Dr. Hamdan Musallam Al Mazrouei, Chairman of the Emirates Red Crescent Board of Directors and Member of the International Humanitarian and Philanthropic Council.
This is a component of the UAE’s development programs and innovative endeavors to improve the continent of Africa’s fundamental services, particularly in the areas of health, education and services.
It is under the direction of H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Ruler’s Representative in Al Dhafra Region and Chairman of the Emirates Red Crescent (ERC) and with oversight from H.H. Sheikh Theyab bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Chairman of the Presidential Court for Development and Fallen Heroes’ Affairs, Chairman of the International Philanthropic and Humanitarian Council and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Erth Zayed Philanthropies.
The overview of the project’s services for over 700 orphans which came at a total cost of AED 20 million. These services included administrative offices for officials and supervisors, a well and contemporary water pumping systems, residences, two schools, a kindergarten, a library, a training center and areas for games and entertainment.
Dr. Abiy Ahmed expressed gratitude to President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and the United Arab Emirates for their attentive consideration of Ethiopia’s and other African nation’s infrastructure requirements.

He also emphasized the contribution to expanding the two nation’s opportunities for collaboration and partnership in a number of crucial areas such as social, educational and health services as well as housing construction assistance. He added that the current leadership’s dedication and the founder’s legacy were the driving forces behind the efforts to strengthen UAE-Ethiopia collaboration in humanitarian and developmental projects.
The two countries are also working on implementing more humanitarian and development projects that benefit the people.
