Eskom released a statement on Friday evening, announcing that it would implement load reduction in the Nkangala District Municipality in Mpumalanga from on Saturday morning from 05:00 to 09:00.
The statement comes at the end of week which saw load shedding return to South Africans’ lives, although Eskom managed to avoid having to implement load shedding on Friday.
By Thursday evening, Eskom had said that load shedding was not expected for the rest of the week. The statement released on Friday said areas to be affected by load reduction include Matshiding, Ramaphosa, Marothobolong, Mabose, Moteti and Watervaal.
“To avoid overloading the Eskom network and damage to our infrastructure in high-density areas that are greatly affected by illegal connections, meter bypasses and vandalism of electricity infrastructure, Eskom will implement a load reduction process in the morning of Saturday in affected areas in Emalahleni,” the statement said.
Previous load shedding statements announcing load shedding during the course of the past week pointed to challenges at the generating units of a number of power stations as the reason why Eskom has had to implement stage 2 and stage 1 load shedding during the week.
