Saif bin Zayed heads UAE delegation to 41st Arab Interior Ministers Council

H.H. Lt. General Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior, led the UAE delegation to the 41st session of the Arab Interior Ministers Council, which was held in Tunis, Tunisia, on February 26, 2024. 

The session was attended by the interior ministers of the Arab countries, as well as representatives of regional and international organizations. The session discussed various issues related to enhancing joint Arab cooperation and coordination in the security and police fields. Here are some of the highlights and outcomes of the session.

General Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan’s arrival in Tunisia

H.H. Lt. General Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan arrived in Tunis on February 25, 2024, where he was received by Kamel Feki, Minister of the Interior of Tunisia; Dr. Mohammad bin Ali Kuman, Secretary-General of Arab Interior Ministers Council; Dr. Iman Ahmed Al Salami, UAE Ambassador to Tunisia; and a number of officials. 

He also met with Kais Saied, President of the Republic of Tunisia, at Carthage Palace, and conveyed to him the greetings of President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and expressed his appreciation for the warm reception, generous hospitality, and continued support for the success of the 41st session of the Arab Interior Ministers Council.

UAE’s commitment to bolstering joint Arab efforts in combating contemporary security challenges

During the session, H.H. Lt. General Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan delivered a speech, in which he reaffirmed the UAE’s commitment to bolstering joint Arab efforts in combating contemporary security challenges, such as terrorism, extremism, cybercrime, and organized crime. 

He also stressed the importance of strengthening the role and the capabilities of the Arab Interior Ministers Council, as a platform for exchanging experiences and best practices, and for developing common strategies and mechanisms. 

He also highlighted the UAE’s achievements and initiatives in the security and police fields, such as the launch of the Arab Police Sports Federation, the establishment of the Arab Police Academy, and the hosting of the World Police and Fire Games in 2024.

Agenda of session and UAE’s role and discussions by UAE delegation

The agenda of the session included several topics and reports, such as the implementation of the resolutions of the previous session, the activities and the projects of the Arab Interior Ministers Council, the cooperation and the coordination with the regional and international organizations, and the draft resolutions and recommendations for the current session. The UAE delegation participated actively and constructively in the discussions and the deliberations of the session, and presented its views and suggestions on the various issues and proposals. 

The UAE delegation also signed several agreements and memoranda of understanding with some of the Arab countries and organizations, such as the agreement on the exchange of information and expertise in the field of civil defense, and the memorandum of understanding on the cooperation in the field of combating human trafficking.
