Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp Down For Thousands Of Users In The US

Meta Platforms Inc’s social media applications, including Instagram, WhatsApp and Facebook Messenger were down for thousands of users in the United States (US) on Wednesday.

According to the outage tracking website Downdetector.com, thousands of people complained of the outage in the US. Some people also complained about the outage in Canada.

In the US, over 18,000 Instagram users reported issues with accessing the app. Around 13,000 people reported issues with accessing Facebook. Downdetector.com data showed that people were also unable to access WhatsApp and Facebook Messenger.

The social media users shared the screenshot of the error on Twitter. The error message read, “Sorry, something went wrong. We are working on it and we will get it fixed as soon as we can.” A Twitter user reportedly said, “Did Facebook get hacked?? The whole platform is down!” Another user wrote on Twitter, “Facebook seems to be down for some users in Canada.”

Outages of Big Tech platforms are not uncommon in today’s world. Last year in February 2022, Twitter also faced a similar major outage when the service was down for thousands of users across the world. More than 40,000 Twitter users reported outages of the service on Downdetector. People were unable to use Twitter on Android and iOS (iPhone Operating System) as well as via a Web browser. In 2021, Twitter faced a similar outage when the service was down for many users on two occasions on the same day.
