South Africa’s Test Captain Temba Bavuma faces an elbow injury issue that affects his sport participation before the World Test Championship final versus Australia. On Wednesday the Lions franchise learned too late that Temba Bavuma would miss their Cricket South Africa final against the Titans at the Wanderers. The news of his sudden withdrawal creates doubts whether South Africa is prepared for their first WTC final match on June 11.
Since the Champions Trophy ended, Bavuma has not participated in any cricket competition. Fans expected his comeback for Lions matches to serve as essential training before South Africa faced their first Test-final challenge.
The Proteas leader has dealt with similar situations before. In 2022, Bavuma had a similar elbow injury that kept him off the pitch for three months and made South Africa’s England tour without him. He suffered a new injury the following day when playing ODIs against Ireland in Abu Dhabi, which kept him off the Bangladesh Test tour.
South Africa must cope with their match drought until they enter the WTC final. Their leading players concurrently engage in football events with both IPL 2025 clubs and English county teams.
