Public schools in Oyo state are currently on indefinite strike after the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) embarked on the industrial action following the kidnapping of their members and students. Oyo State Public School Strike, This happened nearly two weeks after several students and teachers were kidnapped from the schools in Ogbomoso.
The teachers stated that the strike would continue until the authorities take more measures towards securing the freedom of their abducted colleagues and members.
Why Was The Strike Called?
The strike started after the kidnapping of students and teachers in Ogbomoso, Oyo State, on May 15, 2026.
In this regard, gunmen invaded the schools and kidnapped 39 students along with seven teachers, out of which two teachers lost their lives in the process.
While the other victims, who include a school principal and a two-year-old kid, are reportedly under the custody of the kidnappers.
