Nigerian billionaire Aliko Dangote has made known his reasons behind selling his luxurious houses abroad in the US and the UK, noting that he now wants to focus on building his industrial empire in Nigeria.

Aliko Dangote refinery investments, During an interview with Nicolai Tangen, who is the CEO of Norges Bank Investment Management, Dangote mentioned that being in possession of such expensive property was no longer relevant to his goals as an industrialist.

Aliko Dangote said that he decided to streamline his personal life so as to concentrate solely on his ventures.

As per Dangote, keeping expensive properties overseas can end up being a distraction from building a sustainable enterprise.

The billionaire stated that he used to have two massive mansion properties in the US and another one in the UK, but later chose to get rid of them.

“I used to have two big mansions and a house in the UK when I decided to go into the industry, but then I decided to sell all my properties in the US. I wanted to really sit in Nigeria and concentrate,” he said.

According to the businessman, he likes focusing more on the management of operations instead of splitting time between running his business and luxuriously living.

The entrepreneur also talked about what makes him prefer hotels over holiday mansions whenever he travels abroad.

As he explained, having a vacation house means extra worries due to various issues that might arise while the owner is not around.

“Whenever I travel out, I always use hotels because I just pay for it, and when I leave, there won’t be anybody calling me about anything,” Dangote stated.

Strict Working Schedule of Dangote

Moreover, Dangote explained how he is known for his strict work schedule.

In particular, he said that he treats business as his hobby rather than just a job.

Specifically, he mentioned that he normally goes to bed at 11 p.m., wakes up at 5 a.m., works out before going to work, and enters the office as any other employee would do.

According to Dangote, discipline and planning remain key factors in the success of the Dangote Group.

Industrial Development of Nigeria as Prior Goal

Next, he stressed that most of his investments focus on decreasing Nigeria’s reliance on imported products by producing them locally.

This approach became an integral part of the firm’s development in such industries as:

  • Cement production
  • Production of fertilizers
  • Sugar refining
  • Petroleum refining and petrochemicals

Additionally, according to Dangote, the Dangote Group already has strategic plans which will take them till 2030.
