Visa-Free to Rwanda? 3 Things Nigerians Need to Know About the New 30-Day Travel Reciprocity Deal Starting Today 

Travelers from Nigeria who wish to visit Rwanda will be able to experience smooth visa-free entry due to Rwanda’s new visa-free and visa-on-arrival policy towards Africans.

Rwanda visa free for Nigerians, According to the new program, Nigerians will have free access to Rwanda and stay there for up to 30 days from their date of arrival.

This initiative is part of the Rwandan government’s larger pan-African strategy to promote tourism and trade across Africa.

1. Nigerians Can Enter and remain in Rwanda for up to 30 days without a visa application before Entry

Passport holders from Nigeria will not be required to submit visa applications before traveling to Rwanda.

Upon arrival in Rwanda, they will be granted entry visas that permit them to stay in the country for a maximum of 30 days.

That is to say that:

  • They do not need to make an embassy appointment
  • They are exempt from visa payments
  • There is no need for any prior approval process

However, it is recommended that their passports should be valid for six months after their travel dates.

2. Your Yellow Fever Card Is a Must-Have

Among other necessary travel documents, it is required that you carry evidence of having taken the Yellow Fever vaccine.

For Nigerians wishing to travel to Rwanda, a physical copy of the Yellow Fever vaccination card will be necessary.

It can be requested by either the immigration or the airways personnel:

  • At check-in time in Nigeria
  • Upon arrival in Rwanda

Noncompliance may result in a denial of entry into Rwanda.

Travellers are advised not to solely depend on the digital version of the yellow card.

3. Transiting Countries Will Need Other Visas

Even though getting into Rwanda is made easy for Nigerians, certain transiting countries along your travel route might require a visa(s).

Transiting through:

  • Ethiopia
  • Kenya

among others, requires an airport transit visa based on

  • Length of stay at the airport
  • Route used by the airline
  • Whether they will exit the transit area
