A well-known influencer and businessman in Ghana, going by the name SoAfrican, has been arrested by the Criminal Investigation Department of the Ghana Police Service over alleged cyber sex trafficking and sending of intimate videos without the consent of their owners.
SoAfrican arrest, is the name of the person whose real name is Joshua Kojo Anane Boateng, arrested on 6th May 2026 in East Legon, Accra, using the intelligence-driven operation executed by the CID Cyber Crime Unit and the BNI of Ghana.
Why Is SoAfrican Arrested?
According to the instructions from the Director-General of CID, Lydia Yaako Donkor, preliminary investigation results suggest that Boateng is under arrest for running a Telegram group named “VIP Sleep Fetish 2025.”
The police have asserted that the Telegram channel served as a means to share pornographic videos featuring women who may have been subjected to filming without their consent.
It has also been claimed by authorities that the suspect allegedly drugged women using drugs which included alprazolam, popularly referred to as Xanax, before sexually abusing and filming them.
Allegations Linked to Nightclubs in Accra
In addition to this, the police claim that the suspect allegedly victimized women in nightclubs located throughout the city of Accra.
As stated by the CID, it was alleged that women were drugged and then subjected to sexual abuse, after which the videos were shared online.
The exact number of alleged victims has not been disclosed by the police.
Items Recovered From the Suspect at the Time of His Arrest
The following items were seized from Boateng during the raid at East Legon, which included:
- Two iPhones
- One feature phone
- A memory card
- A Seagate external hard drive
- A MacBook laptop
- An iSafe device
Empty sachets containing alprazolam and midazolam tablets
According to the Ghana Police Service, the seized electronic gadgets will be subjected to further forensic analysis, while the recovered sachets will be taken to the FDA for testing.
Is SoAfrican in Court Already?
Yes, he has. As per the police authorities, Boateng has already appeared in court while the investigations are ongoing.
Authorities have confirmed that further digital evidence is currently under examination in relation to the ongoing investigation.

So African’s arrest has led to heated discussions about cyber-enabled sexual offenses, consent issues, and exploitation on digital platforms on social media in Ghana.
This case has brought the issue of the online exploitation network back into focus, especially in regard to Telegram.
The Ghana Police Service has called upon citizens to report such offenses and assist in the investigation of any cyber-related crimes related to sexual exploitation.
