rally to celebrate ethiopia’s prime minister abiy ahmed's incumbency at the meskel square in addis ababa
A fluid security environment is not something that looks like a conducive situation for any other country’s political presence. A Level-4 advisory has also been issued by the State Department warning against any Americans to travel to Ethiopia too ‘due to armed conflict and civil unrest with the potential for ‘terrorism and kidnapping in border areas.’
“We advise U.S. citizens who are in Ethiopia to leave the country as soon as possible,” it said, adding that commercial flights could be booked from the capital’s Bole International Airport.
The warning comes as nine anti-government groups have formed an alliance to see through that the Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed’s government gets toppled, whether “by force or by negotiation.”
Meanwhile, duty-free access to Ethiopia has also been suspended by the US and trade had already been cut down over human rights abuse. Strangely, the anti-government alliance has sought help from Washington, something that has been vehemently been opposed by Ethiopians who have taken to the streets and protested against the military-like conditions created. Washington wishes to intervene in an attempt to end the war-like conditions that have continued in Ethiopia since November 2020. The same has been supported by the Western world too.
Ethiopian government forces and their allies have been clashing with the Tigray People’s Liberation Front and others after Abiy accused local authorities in Tigray of attacking a military camp, a charge the TPLF denied. Since then, the fighting has led to thousands of deaths, with hundreds of thousands of people displaced, while a blockade of Tigray has been blamed for causing mass starvation in the region.
